I know I ramble a lot on a lot of great artists but THIS is really, really exciting! Some two years after hearing him for the first time on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide show, Jonathan Jeremiah’s finally released his debut album, Solitary Man.
I can’t quite put a finger on what makes this guy so astonishing - and why I listened to the album 3 times in row today. Maybe it’s the soulful, sensitive, modest voice. Or the string arrangements. Or just the beautiful timelessness of it all. His music is what sunshine sounds like.
If you’re only buying one album this month (which is absolutely packed with big releases), make darn sure it’s this one. And hey, it’s Record Store Day this Saturday, so why not celebrate it by supporting Rough Trade or your record store of choice.
